How F3 works

Eight ways F3 helps a community see what's happening and act on it.

When a storm is coming, everyone needs the same picture. Where are the shelters? Who can't drive out? Which roads are under water?

F3 brings that picture together in one place. We're also setting up ArcGIS, the mapping system most cities, counties and states already use, so the work churches and volunteers do fits right into theirs.

01

Mapping

Put everything on one map, so a pastor, a fire chief and a volunteer from out of state can talk about the same street.

F3 today

The F3 readiness map covers 14 Southern states. Turn on shelters, hospitals, fire stations, nursing homes or places of worship, one kind at a time.

What we're adding

Shared maps for partners, so a change made once shows up on every screen that uses it.

02

Keeping facts in order

Most of the facts already exist. The work is keeping them together, current and in one place.

F3 today

About 55,000 hospitals, shelters and stations and 136,000 places of worship, drawn from the Census, the CDC, the National Weather Service and other public sources.

What we're adding

Churches and partners keep their own building details current, like a kitchen, showers, a generator or room to sleep people.

03

Finding who needs help

Shade every neighborhood by need, so you can see where help matters most before the storm arrives.

F3 today

Shade neighborhoods by poverty, age, disability, homes without a car and natural hazard risk. Tap any neighborhood for a short report.

What we're adding

Reports that show which neighborhoods are falling behind after a storm, day by day.

04

Live alerts

Some facts change by the minute. Live feeds give people enough warning to act.

F3 today

Weather for any ZIP code, live radar, alerts, and a storm center that opens on its own when a named storm nears the coast. F3 Radio lists stations that keep talking when phones go down.

What we're adding

Alerts to partners when a storm cone or a rising river reaches a county where they serve.

05

Work in the field

Most disaster work happens on a street with no power and no signal. Field tools work offline and catch up later.

F3 today

F3 Academy trains volunteers for the field, with free courses, checklists and quizzes. No login needed.

What we're adding

Simple phone forms for damage and needs, and the Volunteer Time Bank to record the hours each volunteer gives.

06

Pictures from above

Photos from planes, satellites and drones show what changed, block by block.

F3 today

Switch the readiness map to Satellite to see public aerial photos of any neighborhood.

What we're adding

Before and after drone photos, so families and counties get a faster, fairer picture of the damage.

07

Seeing it in 3D

The shape of the ground decides where water runs and pools.

F3 today

Terrain shading on the readiness map shows hills, ridges and low ground.

What we're adding

Laser scans and 3D models of damaged buildings, useful for planning and for aid and insurance claims.

08

AI that helps people decide

AI can sort and spot things fast. People still make the call and knock on the door.

F3 today

F3 Intelligence gives plain answers from trusted guidance.

What we're adding

Tools that scan thousands of aerial photos and flag damaged roofs for a person to check. Private information never goes into a public tool.

Private information stays private

Public maps show places and neighborhood facts, never names or home addresses. Partners see only what they need to help in their own county. A survivor's details are shared only when they say yes. F3 never uses political or voter data.
